It's been a cold weekend. looking around the trees I can see beautiful worm casts, almost under every tree. It shows that the soil around the trees is doing well. If you were a worm in the countryside would you want to live and hang around a poor soil.

I pruned a number more trees this weekend and that should encourage growth throughout the year. I am hoping to encourage the vigour in the trees so that they grow in the direction and shape I want them to. This is working with nature so that when I make a cut, and prune the tree the tree will naturally encourage growth just below that point. Also the cutting of branches will allow more light into the tree; thus more energy. I have also cut out branches that are rubbing together to reduce the chances of getting disease.

As I was leaving and it was almost dusk, a strange black cat came and wondered around the orchard. I know I have field mice, some moles, perhaps even voles around the stream etc in the orchard I figure she was on the prowl for some of them. I have never seen a cat in the orchard prior to this and I watched it for a while as she prowled around. Later she took the high ground and sat on the fence observing what was going on.
